Windy City Air Lease - Page 5

Stove

This gas stove can help heat the building in cold weather when the engines aren’t running.

Gas Flare

With no electricity available in the oil field, simple gas flares provided lighting for the building.  The museum exhibit includes the flares.  The flames shrink noticeably when the Blaisdell draws a charge of gas on its intake stroke.

Workbench

Jim performed the maintenance and repair activities on the engines from this workbench.  It still holds many spare parts for the engines.  During the preparation of the Windy City exhibit, Jim traveled to the museum to help arrange this work area as he had it in its original location.

Flickenger

A view under the workbench shows more of the spare parts for the engine.  In particular, note the spare dual piston and rod assembly complete with piston rings.
